Music Industry Downturn of 2008
by Alex Cosper, Feb. 2, 2010

The music industry continued to suffer declines in CD sales throughout 2008, according to the RIAA. The international organization that represents and tracks major labels, the IFPI, reported that over 40 billion songs were illegally shared online in 2008 and that 95% of all downloads violated International Copyright Law. The study also showed that over half of college students have been involved with the illegal downloading of music (article: The Generation That Killed Rock 'n' Roll, by Nathan Harden, Huffington Post, Feb. 1, 2010).
